Spillover

In 2014 ...a bat infected a small boy with Ebola and this led to an outbreak of 28,637 known cases and 11,315 deaths. This was a national embrassment since scientists never expected this nd thought it would fade out rapidly. It became an international embarrassment when cases appeared in the USA, Scotland, Italy and other countries.

One of the biggest challenge in science just now is predicting when a new virus will pass from wildlife and threaten humans.

Our work attempts to understand this in one system - the Hendra virus system in Australia and to generalize this to multiple other systems, including Ebola.
